Madurai is an ancient city located on the Vaigai River in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with fantastic architecture, it thrives in economic activities, arts, crafts, and festivals. The powerful reign of the Pandians over several centuries with their capital at Madurai has seen the city and their empire grow and flourish. They have been mentioned in the travelogues of famous world travelers as far back as 3 BCE, and they established the Tamil Sangams, which preserved the Tamil Language.
The Pandian rule was a wholesome culmination of culture fuelled by a prosperous economy and brisk worldwide trade. Madurai city is the symbol of that verve and dynamism.
An honest, straightforward, healthy, and well-informed person is the proper description of Late Sri. Ganesan Pudhuvinayagam, the founder of Pandian Pickles. He was open and easily approachable to people who often sought his wisdom and solace, and he earned their respect.
It started as a spirited venture of specially crafted, homemade pickles, which he delivered on his humble bicycle. He had an amazing product in those days – the Mattai Oorga for 3 paise. It was a delicious, handmade pickle, hand-packed initially in banana leaves (Mattais) and later in Mantharai leaves. With the complete support and encouragement from his wife, Mrs. Panchali Ammal, it became the brand of the people. Made with hand-picked ingredients, and with fresh, hand-pounded spices, the pickles won customer goodwill and the demand increased through word of mouth advantage.
This simple start is now the empire of the Pandian Pickles.
The Pandian Pickles Empire is strongly and competently supported by its four main pillars- the four sons of Late Sri Ganesan Pudhuvinayagam. The eldest, Mr. Chellasamy, Mr. Sivagaminathan, Mr. Kandasamy, and Mr. G. Surendran have taken the responsibility to keep their father’s dream alive, growing, and flourishing.
The family keeps the brand going strong – it’s a unified force of family and tradition, holding on and furthering the goodwill that people have showered on them over the generations.
